Our Privacy Position

TotalVM does not require an account, include advertising, perform user tracking, or use analytics SDKs. Total.js does not collect personal data, usage activity, project contents, virtual machine contents, or identifiers through the app.

Network Requests

TotalVM connects to totalvm.totaljs.es to retrieve the official distribution catalog, manifests, icons and virtual disk images. These requests necessarily use your IP address to establish the connection, but the TotalVM service does not use it to profile or track you.

The Linux guest and software you choose to install may connect to Ubuntu, Arch Linux, package repositories, container registries or other services. Those services operate under their own privacy policies and are not controlled by TotalVM.

Data Stored On Your Mac

Virtual disks, machine settings, downloaded images, cached artwork and security-scoped folder permissions are stored locally in TotalVM's sandbox. They are used only to operate the app and are not uploaded to Total.js.

You can delete an environment from TotalVM or remove the app and its container using macOS. Files in a shared project folder remain under your control and are not deleted with the virtual machine.

Shared Folders And Local Domains

TotalVM accesses only folders that you explicitly select through the macOS file picker. The selected folder is shared with the running virtual machine as /www.

TotalVM does not provide a general-purpose VPN service. Its network extension is used exclusively for local split-DNS resolution while an environment is running. It handles only DNS queries matching the private *.totaljs.developer development domain and resolves them locally to the private IP address of the active virtual machine. All other DNS queries and all regular network traffic remain outside the extension.

Matching DNS queries are processed transiently and entirely on your Mac. They are never logged, retained, transmitted to Total.js, sold, used for analytics, advertising, profiling or tracking, or disclosed to any third party.

The only persistent network-extension configuration is the private development domain and the private IP address of the active local virtual machine. macOS stores this technical configuration locally; TotalVM does not upload or share it.

Security And Changes

TotalVM uses the macOS App Sandbox and Apple Virtualization. We may update this policy when the app's behavior changes. Any material change will be published on this page with a new effective date.
